Terms of Use
Last updated 7 September 2026
These terms apply when you use Cardtell, whether in the mobile app or at cardtell.fun. By using it, you agree to them.
1. Who can use Cardtell
You must be 18 or older. The game contains crude humour, sexual references and language many people find offensive — that is the nature of the game, and it is not suitable for children. If you are under 18, do not use it.
2. Your account
You do not need an account to play. Once you have confirmed your age you can start a game or join one, and your device holds a token that identifies you to the game server.
You can also sign in, with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and a password. Signing in is optional for playing. It is required before you can buy anything — see section 6.
An account exists for one reason: it is what lets the decks, coins and subscription you have paid for follow you to a new phone. Without one they belong to the device, not to you.
If you sign in with an email address
- We email you a six-digit code and ask you to enter it, to confirm the address is yours. Until you do, you cannot sign in with it.
- We store the address and a cryptographic hash of your password. We never store the password itself and cannot tell you what it is.
- If you forget it, we send a code to that address so you can set a new one.
- One confirmed email address is one account. If you later sign in with Apple or Google using an address you have already confirmed, you arrive in the same account rather than a second one.
Keep your password to yourself. Anything done by someone signed in as you is treated as done by you.
If you play as a guest
If you lose your device or uninstall the app, that token is gone. Anything tied to it is not recoverable by us, because we hold nothing else that identifies you. Purchases are the exception, because buying requires an account and an account can be signed into again.
Anything you bought before accounts existed stays yours, and signing in for the first time brings it with you.
3. Behaviour
Your display name is shown to everyone in your room. Do not use a name that harasses, impersonates, or contains slurs or threats. We may refuse or replace names that break this.
If you sign in, you also choose a username, and it is permanent: you cannot change it yourself afterwards, so choose one you are willing to keep. The same rules apply to it, and we may rename an account whose username breaks them.
Do not attempt to disrupt the service, interfere with other players' games, or access parts of the system you have not been given access to.
4. Cards you write
You can spend coins to write your own answer card and play it in the round you are in. That card is shown to the other players at your table, and it is also sent to us for review.
There is zero tolerance for objectionable content. Cardtell is an adult game and its cards are crude on purpose, but the following are never acceptable and will be removed: sexual content involving minors, content sexualising animals, content depicting or encouraging non-consensual acts, slurs and hate speech targeting a protected characteristic, threats, and content that identifies or targets a real private individual.
Anyone at your table can report a card, and you can block another player so their written cards are never shown to you again. We review reports and remove content that breaks these rules. Accounts that repeatedly break them lose the ability to write cards, or lose access to Cardtell entirely, without refund.
A card you write does not become part of the game for other people unless we approve it. You keep no rights over cards we approve and add to the game.
5. Coins
Coins are an in-app currency with no cash value. They can be earned by playing, paid out by an achievement, or bought as a one-off purchase. They cannot be exchanged for money, transferred to another player, or refunded once spent.
There is no advertising in Cardtell, and no coins are given for watching any.
If a coin purchase is refunded, we take back any coins from that purchase that you have not already spent.
Statistics and achievements
We keep a count of the games you have played and won, the rounds you have taken and your best single game, and the app shows them back to you. Achievements are awarded from those counts and pay coins. No other player is shown your statistics, and there is no leaderboard.
The counts are ours to correct. If an achievement pays out twice, if a game is recorded that was not played, or if a count is inflated by anything other than playing, we may put it right and take back coins that were paid on the strength of it. We do not take back coins you earned legitimately.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
You need to be signed in to buy anything. If you are playing as a guest, the app will ask you to sign in or create an account first. This is so that what you pay for is attached to you rather than to the handset, and can be restored if you change phone.
Cardtell is free to play with the base deck. Cardtell Plus is an optional subscription that unlocks additional decks and cosmetic items. Some items can also be bought individually.
- Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple or Google account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Items bought individually remain available to you even if a subscription ends.
Refunds
Purchases are processed by Apple and Google, and their refund policies apply. We cannot issue refunds directly. Contact Apple Support or Google Play Support.
Decks in a shared game
The decks available in a room come from the player who created it. Being in a room where a paid deck is in play does not give you ownership of that deck outside it.
7. Content
The cards, artwork, name and software are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, redistribute or sell them, or use them to build a competing product.
Card content is fictional and written for comic effect. It does not represent our views, or any statement of fact about any real person.
8. Availability
We try to keep the service running but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, including individual decks and individual cosmetic items such as avatars — for example if we lose the right to publish something, or if we replace a set of artwork with a newer one. If a cosmetic item you were using is withdrawn, the app gives you another and you can pick a different one from your profile; a subscription is not refunded because one cosmetic item in it changed.
If we permanently discontinue the service while you hold an active subscription, we will stop billing it.
9. Liability
Cardtell is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Ending your use
You can stop at any time by uninstalling the app.
If you have an account you can delete it from Settings, which removes your email address, your password, your username and the profile attached to them. Rows that carry no name — your play counters and your coin balance — stay attached to the random identifier described in the Privacy Policy, which after deletion identifies nobody; ask us and we will delete those too. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — cancel that in your Apple or Google account settings, as described in section 6.
We may suspend access if these terms are broken.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where they affect you, shown in the app.
